New Academic Year at Šiauliai University
September brought students and teachers back to classrooms, laboratories and library reading rooms, but for the first time the new academic year started not on the usual time - September 1 - but two weeks later. Greetings and wishes from university management, guests and student representatives were delivered at the opening ceremony of the new academic year held on September 14 at the University Library, to which members and guests of the university community were invited.
Foreign students have also started the academic year at the University
A group of foreign students from 7 countries - Latvia, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and South Korea - also started the new academic year at Šiauliai University. A total of 17 exchange students started their studies at Šiauliai University this semester.
The introductory week for foreign students who have come under Erasmus + and other exchange programs started on 14 September at the first meeting at the University Library. A senior specialist for international studies of Šiauliai University Department of Studies and International Programmes Ieva Grušaitė introduced Lithuania, Šiauliai and studies at Šiauliai University to foreign students. Foreigners were also given information on the study process, the basic rules of living in a university dormitory, and so on. The students were greeted by dr. Regina Karvelienė, the Director of the Department of Studies and International Programmes of Šiauliai University. During the meeting, Šiauliai police officers introduced foreign students to the rules of public order and laws that must be observed while living in Lithuania.
In the first week of the academic year, foreign students will be invited to a tour in Šiauliai and to various activities organized by ESN mentors.

This opening ceremony of the new academic year is the last for Šiauliai University, because from January 1, 2021 our higher educational institution will become Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University.
In his congratulatory speech, Rector of Šiauliai University prof. Darius Šiaučiūnas noted that this academic year for Šiauliai University is historic. “We start the academic year at Šiauliai University, and we will finish it at Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University. Šiauliai University, which has existed since 1997, in January 1, 2021 will officially become part of the structure of Vilnius University, one of the oldest in Europe and the largest in Lithuania.
