Presumptions for Women's Political Participation in Lithuania

 Democratic rule established favorable conditions for the development of civil participation and citizenship in Lithuania. It provided with equal gender rights to participate in all sorts of public and political activities. However, since 1990 men have predominantly occupied all the levels of political sphere. The article is focused on the Lithuanian women's participation in formal political life, their opportunities, as well as a number of factors (personal, social, public) for the success in political career. Different ways of the development of political capital are presented. For instance, skills acquired while participating and volunteering in civil society organizations may be successfully adopted and applied in political activities. Other possibilities of the development of political capital are analyzed in the article as well.
