COMPOSITE LINGUISTIC PERSONALITY, ITS LEXICON AND THESAURUS IN BORIS AKUNIN’S NOVEL “STATSKIY SOVETNIK”

Svetlana Murane

One of the topical directions of modern functional lexicology is the study of the lexicon and thesaurus of a linguistic personality on the material of texts belonging to different genres. Behind every text there is a linguistic personality. The author of the text makes his characters speak according to their status and social-psychological position occupied by them.

In our opinion the political detective novel “Statskiy Sovetnik” represents this composite linguistic personality. It consists of the members of “narodnaya volya” terrorist group. Such a collective linguistic personality is united by a complex of concepts and ideas due to personal motivation, but its lexicon is characterized by the homogeneity and group patterns of speech.

The thesaurus of the composite linguistic personality also represents such concepts as freedom, justice, human dignity, sacrifice in the name of revolution. The means for achieving these lofty ideals is bloody terror.

The lexicon of the given composite linguistic personality includes both the words pertaining to the “revolutionary” sphere, especially to the sphere of violence, and the vocabulary of military sphere in which the idea of confrontation is being realized. When characterizing the revolution the characters, that make up this composite linguistic personality, use the vocabulary of associative – semantic field of fire and blood. The opposition of the pronouns we and they also plays an important role.
