Šiauliai University – regional and classical type higher education institution located in the Northern region of Lithuania. Founded in 1997 by uniting Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute and Šiauliai Polytechnic Faculty of Kaunas University of Technology.

Šiauliai Pedagogical Institute was founded in 1948.

Management: National and public

The university has:

A community of around 4000 students and 300 academic staff.

6 faculties and 2 institutes: Arts, Education, HumanitiesSocial Sciences, Social Welfare and Disability Studies, Technology and Natural Sciences, Institute of Informatics, Mathematics and E-Studies,and Continuing Studies Institute.

Studies are organised into 3 cycles: first cycle – Bachelor's degree, second cycle – Special Professionals studies and Master's degree studies, third cycle – Doctoral.

79 Study Programmes (49 Bachelor's and 30 Master's). 

26 International Study Programmes taught in English or Russian:

Bachelor's: English Philology and other foreign language (Spanish, French, German); Public Administration; Economics and Sustainable Business (Joint degree study programme with Wroclaw University (Poland)); Ecology and Environmental studies; Mechanics Engineering; Electronics Engineering; Informatics; Mathematics; Stage Art; Music; Environmental Objects Design.

Master's: Social Work (Joint Study Programme with Open University, Ukraine); Signal Processing;  Mechanical Engineering; Computer Science; Mathematics; Arts (Design, Graphics, Painting, Textile/Leather); Pedagogy of Music; History and Politics; Literary Criticism; Career Education; Intercultural Education and Mediation; Natural Recreation (Joint study Programme with Daugavpils University, Latvia); Management; Economics (Specialisations: Economics Analysis and Planning; Finances and Banking); Regional Development and Governance (Joint degree study programme with Pardubice University (Czech Republic).

Every faculty of Šiauliai University offers one year programme for incoming ERASMUS students and for students from partner institutions http://www.su.lt/en/studies/exchange-programmes2.

The University operates the following research centres: Gender Studies, Biological Research, Educational Researches, Energy and Environmentally Clean Technologies, Modelling of Physical Processes, Natural Science Education, Public Health, Social Research, Special Education, Technological Experiments, Biomedical Engineering, Art. There is European Studies Institute at the University as well.

The researchers and the staff are running and have participated in such international projects as VI and VII Framework, ERASMUS+, EUREKA, EQUAL, INTERREG, LAT-LIT,  EU Structural funds and other EC projects.

Šiauliai University has over 130 agreements with foreign higher education institutions from 40 countries all over the World. University successfully participates in various activities of  ERASMUS+ programmes: exchange of students and lecturers, ECTS adjustment, intensive programmes and European networks.

Students' Organisations: ESN 'Erasmus Student Network' (Mentor programme), Students' Club, the Students' Representation, members of International Association of Students Economists and Managers (AISEC).
