The Faculty was established in 1975. Thirty-five lecturers work in full-time positions: 4 professors, 14 associate professors, 4 lectors Ph.D., 8 Ph.D. students, 3 lectors, 2 assistant. More than 1200 Bachelor students and 80 Master students study at the Faculty. The scientists of the Faculty annually organize international conferences, participate in various scientific projects. The main research trends are: identifying and meeting the disabled persons' needs; needs and competences of the participants of the education process: psychological and educational aspects; difficulties of children's learning and integrated teaching; modelling of teaching organization and pupils' health. Research centre of Special Education was established in 1996. It publishes the journal of scientific works "Special education". The department of Special Didacticism publishes the periodical "Education of Mild Mentally Retarded Children". The lecturers of the Faculty annually prepare and publish a great number of lecture syllabuses, methodological material, and scientific researches. Several scientists of the faculty are the members of editorial boards of scientific journals.

1st stage: the following study programmes for Bachelor's degree are offered:

  • Special education (specialization: Logopedics),
  • Special education (specialization: Physiotherapy in Education),
  • Social education,
  • Health education.

2nd stage: the following study programmes for Master's degree are offered:

  • Special education (coordination of special education, art therapy),
  • Applied physical education (Health Education, Management of Applied Physical Education) 
  • Social education.

3rd stage of studies to Doctor's degree:

Studies may be continued Doctor's degree studies - direction of  Educology (Education). 4 years.

Forms of studies:
  • Full-time studies (duration of studies: bachelor - 4 years; master’s (degree) studies - 2 years),
  • Extra-mural studies (duration of studies: bachelor - 5,5 years, master’s (degree) studies - 2-2,5 years).
Our students are given opportunities to study according to LLP/Erasmus programme or continue studies in educational institutions from Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Portugal, Austria, Czechia, Norway. The team of Students' Representatives (president Viktorija Stravinskaite) actively functions, the students' club is being created.
